What are hydraulic & industrial hoses?
A hydraulic hose is the flexible line that carries pressurised fluid between the pump and the actuator. It consists of an inner rubber tube, steel wire braid or spiral reinforcement and a protective outer cover; the pressure it can carry depends directly on the number of reinforcement layers. MCF Flex stocks UMCO, Gates and Transfer-Oil ranges from SAE 100 R1 to 4SH and assembles them with fittings to any length.

Details & Table →What to look for
- Working pressure
- Base your choice on peak pressure, not continuous pressure. The hose rating must exceed the system peak; burst pressure is typically four times the working pressure.
- Inside diameter
- A smaller bore raises flow velocity and pressure drop and heats the system. Choose the diameter recommended in the table, not the smallest one that fits the flow.
- Fluid and temperature
- Mineral oil, water-glycol, bio-oil and brake fluid each require a different inner tube. Continuous operating temperature is the single biggest factor in hose life.
- Bend radius
- The hose must never be forced below the catalogue minimum bend radius. Over-bending fatigues the reinforcement wire and causes early failure.
- End fitting match
- Hose and fitting must share the same pressure class and be crimped with a matching ferrule. Mixing brands voids the sealing guarantee.
Frequently asked
When should a hydraulic hose be replaced?
Replace immediately if you see cracks, blisters or exposed wire in the cover, leakage at the fitting neck, permanent deformation or hardening. In heavy-duty service, periodic replacement is advised even without visible damage.
What is the difference between SAE 100 R1 and R2?
R1 has one steel wire braid, R2 has two. At the same bore, R2 withstands roughly twice the working pressure and is preferred on high-pressure and impulse lines.
Can you make custom hose assemblies?
Yes. We crimp assemblies from 3/16" to 3" in any length and end-fitting combination. Send us a sample of your existing hose or the end types.
When is thermoplastic hose the better choice?
Transfer-Oil thermoplastic hoses are preferred over rubber where low volumetric expansion, light weight or non-conductivity matter — test lines, forklifts, rescue equipment and marine use.
