What are pneumatic components?
Pneumatic components are everything that carries and controls compressed air between the supply line and the actuator: push-in fittings, tubing, valves, silencers and air preparation units. Unlike hydraulics, working pressure is typically 6–10 bar, so connections are quick push-fit systems assembled by hand. MCF Flex stocks all main groups in both plastic and metal bodies.

- Tube outside diameter
- Pneumatic fittings are selected by the OUTSIDE diameter of the tube (Ø4, Ø6, Ø8, Ø10, Ø12…). Do not confuse this with the bore-based sizing used in hydraulics.
- Thread size
- The equipment side is usually BSP (1/8", 1/4", 3/8") or metric (M5). State both the tube diameter and the thread when ordering.
- Body material
- Plastic bodies are light and economical; metal (brass or nickel-plated) bodies resist impact, heat and frequent disconnection better.
- Air quality
- Wet, oily air shortens valve life. A filter-regulator-lubricator (FRL unit) at the line inlet extends equipment life markedly.
Frequently asked
How do I release a push-in fitting?
Press the collet ring at the end of the fitting towards the body while pulling the tube out. Pulling without pressing the collet damages both the tube and the cartridge.
Polyurethane or polyamide tubing?
Polyurethane (PU) is more flexible and suits tight bend radii and moving applications. Polyamide (PA) is stiffer and more pressure-resistant, preferred on fixed lines and at higher temperatures.
What does a silencer do?
It reduces the noise of air exhausted to atmosphere and keeps dust out. Sintered bronze silencers suit high flow, plastic ones general use; a blocked silencer degrades valve performance and should be replaced periodically.
Why is an FRL unit necessary?
The filter removes moisture and particles, the regulator stabilises pressure and the lubricator oils moving parts. Without these three, wear and failure rates in valves and cylinders rise sharply.
